Such a pleasure to hear a thrilling performance by the Israeli Philharmonic the other night at Severance Hall. The orchestra sounded fantastic! The Winds, Strings, Brass, Percussion; it was all there and they were a firey bunch. I was struck by the fantastic display of chamber music skills that were present in the orchestral setting, particularly with the wind section. They breathe together, move together and play so well together. Even though Maestro Mehta was up on the podium, the nonverbal communication within the sections was exquisite and they performed with ownership of the music known to savvy chamber musicians. Be sure to go see them if they are on tour in your area, you will not be disappointed!
